What is Split suede

Split suede is a type of suede in which the saw wet blue hide is being split into 2 layers so that it can be used to re-tan the leather. In other words it could also be said as, Suede is produced from the under layer of the hide that has been split.

Split suede is cheap and is also gives a good quality compared to other type of suede i.e., full grain leather or 2nd layer leather.

The split side is aniline dyed and buffed to create the typical velvety effect. Split Suede are not only used in upholstery, but also in shoes, garment and handbag industries.
